Getting your priorities right!

Wed 15th September
We spent an uncomfortable night in Lahan. The hotel only had one room available with two beds, and they put another mattress on the floor. The room had no windows or air-con and was just a big sweat box - we all kept waking up throughout the night lathered in sweat. So we were up early and thought we’d have a good run up towards Kathmandu. But then Jukesy had the idea of wiring the CD player we bought in Siliguri straight to the Tuk’s battery, so got a local guy to do it (the CD player was running on batteries before that and would only play about three songs before going flat). Their taste in music leaves a lot to be desired but I do have a few cd’s of Kings of Leon and Linkin Park to break up the 70’s disco crap.
So we set off at about 10 for the long drive up to Hetauda. Road was generally good, though the last 20km was almost all uphill and we kept getting stuck behind lorries - the Tuk needs a long gap to overtake anything cos acceleration isn’t its strong point. Arrived at a basic but nice hotel at teatime and went for tea, but unfortunately have almost run out of money and the nearest money exchange is another 60 km away - part paid the food and hotel bill in dollars and have about 5 quid left for coffee in the morning. Long haul uphill to Kathmandu tomorrow and all of us have bruised gluteaous maximii from the constant sitting down.
